Pili Primed for Year Two Leap After Intense Offseason

Alissa Pili’s rookie season with the Minnesota Lynx wasn’t exactly the storybook start she envisioned. After a dominant college career, the eighth overall pick found herself mostly watching from the bench as the Lynx made a run to the WNBA Finals. But instead of sulking, Pili used that experience as fuel for a transformative offseason.

Pili dedicated her offseason to improving her overall game and getting into peak physical condition. “Coming out of this last season, I really wanted to commit myself to just getting in the best shape possible,” she said. This commitment included staying in Minnesota to train, a decision she feels has already paid dividends. ” She believes this decision has significantly helped her, especially with the head start she got before training camp.”

3×3 Experience Provides Unique Edge

Adding another layer to her offseason development, Pili participated in the USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s National Team development camp. The fast-paced, strategic nature of 3×3 basketball intrigued her. “Just allowing ourselves to learn the game and not be afraid to mess up or ask questions,” Pili said, highlighting her approach to the new format. While her 3×3 experience is relatively new, her aspirations are high: “I could definitely see myself doing this (long term) and trying to put myself in a position to maybe play on the team for the Olympics and things like that. It’s super fun to me.”

Learning from the Best

Pili’s rookie season wasn’t without its positives. She had the opportunity to learn from Lynx star Napheesa Collier, an experience she clearly valued. “I can definitely see similarities in the player and person, because I’m somebody who’s very humble and is very much a team player,” Pili observed. “Just the way she handles herself and carries herself – I really liked that about her.”

Ready to Unleash Her Full Potential

With a year of WNBA experience under her belt, a focused offseason, and a unique 3×3 stint, Pili is poised to make a significant leap in her second season. She feels more comfortable and confident on the court, with a better understanding of the game’s nuances.

She feels more comfortable and less frantic on the court compared to her rookie season, with a better understanding of positioning.” The Lynx, and their fans, are hoping that all this hard work translates into a breakout year for the talented young forward.
