ST. PAUL, Minn. — The sound is unmistakable. Following every Minnesota United victory at Allianz Field, the stadium fills with the chorus of a single song: Oasis’ “Wonderwall.” It’s a postgame tradition that gives every fan and player a moment to revel in the euphoria of a win, a tradition built on one simple, powerful phrase: “Cuz Maybe.”
Now, as the club makes its deepest U.S. Open Cup run in years and gears up for a return to the MLS Cup Playoffs, Minnesota United is embracing that very sentiment with the official launch of its “Cuz Maybe” campaign.
The Loons are riding a wave of momentum, having recently punched their ticket to the 2025 MLS Cup Playoffs. The club’s postseason berth was secured on August 30 after a hard-fought 1-1 draw with the Portland Timbers, combined with a Sporting Kansas City victory over the Colorado Rapids. This marks the team’s sixth postseason appearance in the last seven seasons, a remarkable run of consistency that has them sitting second in the Western Conference with a 14-6-9 record, trailing only San Diego FC.
But the playoff race is only half the story.
The “Cuz Maybe” campaign comes as the Loons return to the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup Semifinals for the first time since their 2019 run, a journey that ended in a hard-fought 2-1 loss to Atlanta United FC in the Final. Now, the club has a chance at redemption, welcoming Austin FC to Allianz Field on September 17. The Loons’ path to the semifinals was paved with wins against Louisville City FC, St. Louis CITY SC, and the Chicago Fire.
The “Cuz Maybe” phrase isn’t just marketing; it’s the very soul of the club’s tradition, symbolizing the belief that this could finally be the year everything comes together. To celebrate the campaign and rally support for the semifinal match, the club is calling for a full-stadium blackout on September 17. The first 10,000 fans to enter Allianz Field will receive a limited-edition black “Cuz Maybe” t-shirt, a tangible piece of the hope the club is building.
With five regular season games remaining, head coach Eric Ramsay and the team will now set their sights on securing home-field advantage for the MLS Cup Playoffs, with more details to be announced at a later date.
For now, the focus is squarely on the Open Cup. Tickets for the September 17 semifinal match against Austin FC are available for a limited time price of just $15. The match is set to kick off at 7:30 p.m. CT, as Minnesota United looks to turn “cuz maybe” into a very real “yes, we did.”
