In Minnesota, fútbol americano has always carried a special kind of energy, but when that energy meets cultura, comunidad, and youth empowerment, something even more powerful emerges. This year, the Minnesota Vikings proudly stood alongside the NFL in honoring two extraordinary young leaders through the Latino Youth Honors program: Joaquín Lechuga and Emily Ramirez González. And for us at Vida y Deportes, esto es orgullo puro.

Joaquín and Emily represent the best of what our community strives for- resilience, leadership, academic excellence, and a commitment to lifting others as they rise. Their recognition by the Vikings is more than an award; it’s a celebration of Latino youth whose voices, dreams, and dedication are shaping the future of Minnesota.

Joaquín Lechuga, honored for his leadership and service, embodies the spirit of a true community champion. His work reflects discipline, compassion, and a drive to create positive change, qualities that resonate deeply with the values of the Vikings organization and the broader Latino community.

Emily Ramirez González brings her own brilliance to the spotlight. Her academic achievements, cultural pride, and commitment to uplifting peers make her a standout role model. She represents the strength and determination of young Latinas across Minnesota who are rewriting the narrative with courage and corazón.

The Vikings’ participation in the NFL’s Latino Youth Honors program sends a powerful message: Nuestra comunidad importa. Our youth matter. Their stories matter. Their futures matter.

For Minnesota- a state rich with diversity, immigrant heritage, and multigenerational Latino families, seeing Joaquín and Emily celebrated on a national stage is a reminder that representation isn’t just symbolic; it’s transformational.

NFL, Procter & Gamble, and Hispanic Heritage Foundation Recognize Trailblazing Youth Football Players Making an Impact in Latino Culture and Communities

NEW YORK — July 21, 2026 — The National Football League, Procter & Gamble, and the Hispanic Heritage Foundation (HHF) announced the fourth annual NFL Latino Youth Honors, recognizing high school seniors of every background from across NFL club markets who not only excel on the field and in the classroom, but also engage meaningfully with Latino culture and community. Procter & Gamble will serve its third year as the presenting sponsor of the Latino Youth Honors.

The NFL and the HHF have highlighted impactful individuals for years, honoring outstanding youth football players in tackle and flag football. Thanks to support from P&G, eight high school seniors will each receive a grant award that can be used for college, including $25,000 grants for both the male and female national winners and $5,000 grants for each of the six other finalists.

"At the Hispanic Heritage Foundation, we believe that investing in young leaders strengthens both our communities and our future," said Jose Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation. "We are proud to partner with the NFL and Procter & Gamble to celebrate the NFL Latino Youth Honors, recognizing outstanding Latino student-athletes who excel in academics, athletics and service while inspiring the next generation of leaders."

All 32 NFL teams are invited to select a male and female high school senior football player to represent their team and submit these exemplary student-athletes to be considered for this year’s program. The selection criteria for the NFL Latino Youth Honors includes:

●                    Being a high school senior

●                    A flag or tackle football player

●                    Based in or near the 32 NFL team markets

●                    Be in good academic standing (minimum GPA 3.0)

 ●            Verifiable football stats (season and career), with designation of tackle or flag

At Vida y Deportes, we salute these jóvenes líderes and the Minnesota Vikings for championing inclusion, opportunity, and the beautiful blend of sports and cultura that continues to unite us.
